Nippon Kodo Special – The 150th Anniversary of Japan and France’s cultural exchange

If you follow the culture and style that currently exist in Japan, most lead to a certain place in history. This place is the famous Ginkaku temple which was built during the 15th century in Kyoto’s Eastern Mountains.

The 8th Shogun of the Muromachi era, Ashikaga Yoshimasa used the Ginkaku Temple which was built using his own taste of beauty and funds as a starting point to create what is known today as the 3 major forms of art in Japan, Kohdo (Incense Ceremony), Sado (Tea Ceremony), and Kado (Floral Arrangements).

This year in connection with Japan and France’s 150th Anniversary and the grand opening of the Shokoku, Kinkaku, & Ginkaku temple exhibition in Paris, a special event was held where these 3 major forms of art were introduced to France for the first time as a group.

This program will help you to understand the essence of Higashiyama Bunka which is the origin of Zen Buddhism as well as create a borderless point of view of the spirit and sense of beauty of Japan.

In association with Kodo (Incense Ceremony), Shinoryu Grand Master Sogen Hachiya, Sohitsu Hachiya, and Waka Sosho traveled to France to perform a special Koh Ceremony. The perfumers of the home of fragrance were also able to experience Japanese Kodo themselves. The fragrance culture interchange is the highlight of this program.
