Nippon Kodo has continued to produce long selling incense products like SEIUN and Mainichi-Koh.
The top maker holds an immovable 50% share of Japan’s incense market. They were able to become a strong company by using media strategy to spread the word swiftly throughout Japan.
When the SEIUN line was first being sold, they developed a TV commercial using a soothing song by a famous singer during that time named Kouichi Morita. This commercial successfully changed the dark image that incense had, and has helped grow the SEIUN line to a #1 brand that is now sold in well known stores throughout Japan. Nippon Kodo, is aggressively building their company by not following the old rules of this traditional industry. They are continuously starting mergers & acquisitions with other fragrance companies to further expand their product line.
Their next target: The World.
A factory was recently built in Vietnam as a production point for huge markets like India and China. Will the traditional fragrance industry that Japan is so proud of be able to win the battle against the world’s competitors?
