This month’s temple – Ginkakuji
This silver temple in Kyoto was originally named Tozan Jishoji. During the 14th to the 15th century, Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa had this temple built as a place to rest. Ashikaga Yoshimitsu’s Kinkakuji is a gorgeous building covered in gold leaf, but Ginkakuji is not actually covered in silver and has quite a simple image.
However, this temple always provided a sense of beauty due to Yoshimasa’s cultural influence also known as Higashiyama Culture which was based on tea ceremonies and religious meditation.
The garden at Ginkakuji is filled with luxuries including many special stones and majestic trees.
