Kinkakuji (Rokuonji Temple)

Japan’s ancient city of Kyoto has many places of interest. One of them is Kinkakuji, which is considered to be a symbol of Kyoto and is located in the North Western part of the city. The word KIN in Japanese means gold which is why the gorgeous gold leafed Rokuonji Temple, is nick named Kinkakuji.

Rokuonji Temple was built for the 3rd Shogun of the Muromachi Era, Yoshimitsu Ashikaga.
In 1994, the temple was registered as part of the world’s inheritance.
